"Quantum" Radio? |
I came up with the show name and tagline "We only exist if you're listening" in homage to the Copenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics in which "there is no reality in the absence of observation". Radio is a funny medium -- while you're sitting in the station broadcasting music and talking about it, sometimes you wonder if anybody is listening at all. Does the show exist without any listeners? If nobody tuned in at all, perhaps it wouldn't...

History |
Back in 2003, my friend Karen and I started a student radio show at Juniata College just for funsies. We played eclectic music, developed a strong rapport with the local listening population, and ended up continuing the show all four years of our undergrad experience. After we graduated, I stayed on to teach at the local high school and started Quantum Radio v 2.0 with my younger brother Wylie. After I moved to Texas, Wylie kept the show going with two more partners for another year, calling it Quantum Radio Beta. Ten years later, I find myself back at Juniata and couldn't resist starting the show again. "Quantum Radio Now" is still tickling the electromagnetic spectrum weekly during the school year.
