It's no surprise to anybody that schools and teachers are always in need of financial support. LASA does a great job of raising and allocating money and resources to our teachers, but with so many great programs going on, it's still really tough to meet everybody's needs. At a school like ours, we need to go above and beyond regular classroom activities because we're upholding the highest academic standards possible. But with authentic projects and labs comes the high price of materials and tools.
Right: students working on their "Box Project" in the shop.
Long story short, the moment I posted my approved request, folks started donating. It was a Tuesday afternoon, and I was in the process of sending my students' parents a link to the request so that they could share it with their friends and family and hopefully get enough donations to fund the project "soon". By the time I had hit the send button, I checked the website again and IT WAS ALREADY FUNDED! So, that was exciting to say the least. Since there were still a few hours left in the work day, our order got placed with Grainger, the supply company we need the materials from. Lo and behold, the very next day at around the same time, the boxes with all our materials arrived in my classroom! I seriously could not believe it! In less than 24 hours we went from asking to receiving. It was a miracle!
