May 2015: Intel international science & engineering fair in Pittsburgh

I had such an amazing time chaperoning my students at Intel ISEF. I was so exhausted walking around to see all the mind-blowing projects. I took pictures of only a few of them, but there were so many that were extremely impressive. I was also able to take a small group of students and parents to Carnegie Mellon University to tour the robotics department, courtesy of my long-time friend Michael Shomin. Michael was such a fantastic host! He showed us some of the projects he's working with.

There were SO many cool projects to check out! I had to take my time with each row.

Sameer's project dealt with a novel way to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere using algae.
Lily and Soma's project involved crunching a TON of data! They analyzed specific genetic codes that may someday help doctors ID patients at risk of breast cancer.

Ballbot! A human-sized robot that balances on one ball.
Michael explained how each part of Ballbot worked together to help the robot balance and move around.
Our group was so excited to see Ballbot and visit CMU!
Michael gave us a tour of the whole robotics facility at Carnegie Mellon University. It was awesome!
One student used an Ardino to crate a hand that makes sign language.
This hat senses the space around it, alerting visually impaired wearers of impending obstacles
This girl created a robot that she can CONTROL WITH HER THOUGHTS. Yes, that's right.
Another Arduino project, this glove helps users who have trouble controlling their own hand muscles.
Sameer won second place in his category, Environmental Engineering. I'm so proud of him!!
